Wood Finish Shellac

wood finish shellac

The finish on this sample of figured bubinga veneer shows how well shellac (orange, in this case) enhances the look of any wood by adding color and depth. measure carefully when using powdered and liquid dyes or universal tinting colors (utcs), and make more solution than you need.. Shellac compared to other wood finishes. shellac is a type of interior-use wood finish that easily absorbs into the previous coat. that means it’s quick and easy to apply several coats, which if put on thin, will dry really fast. plus, you can easily repair a shellac finish, which i’ll cover in a bit more detail below.. The finish on the exterior looks like it probably is shellac, but i don’t know enough about wood finishes to be 100% sure it is shellac. the exterior finish is very uniform, but it is uniformly “crackled”, for lack of a better word. it is not loose, does not come off when rubbed, just looks kind of like a good alligator purse..
