During my college and early work years of being without, i saved for and purchased smaller bench-top versions of many woodworking machines. my goal is to not limit the size and quality of projects i can build in my small shop, despite being restricted to small machines & limited space and time.. A shop just doesn't seem complete without a classic woodworking bench. woodcraft's selection of workbenches from european style to completely functional provides a choice for every need. our european benches are carefully crafted to display old world charm.. So, while you won’t find this to be an attractive solution to your bench top, i’ll offer it anyway as a nod toward frugality: consider an mdf top. my first “real” woodworking bench was made with a framework of home-center 2x lumber and a doubled-up top made of 3/4-in. mdf (see below)..
